MVMCS Assessment Policy
The Colorado Department of Education is required to provide diagnostic academic growth information for each student enrolled in MVMCS based on the state assessment results for the preceding school years. This information shall be included in each student’s individual student record. Appropriate school personnel, including those who work directly with the student, shall have access to the student’s state assessment results and longitudinal academic growth information and shall share with and explain that information to the student’s parent/guardian.
Paper-Based Testing Policy
MVMCS will be administering the CMAS and CoAlt English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies in a paper and pencil format. This decision is based on:
-The technological capacity and resources available to the school at this time
-The student’s ages and previous experience with computerized and written assessments
-The methodology of daily instruction in the classroom
Parent/guardian request for exemption
A parent/guardian who wishes to exempt his or her child from a particular state, federal, or local assessment shall make this request in writing no later than two weeks prior to the assessment from which exemption is sought.
In accordance with state law, MVMCS shall not impose a negative consequence upon a student, parent, or guardian who has requested an exemption from a state assessment.
This policy’s exemption process shall apply to state assessments (CMAS and CoAlt English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies) but shall not apply to district or classroom assessments nor ACCESS or READ Act assessments (including DIBELS for reading and STAR for math).
Parents/Guardians who opt out of one or more of the State assessments must obtain and sign the opt-out from our website or at the front office and return it to the front office.
Parent refusal notices will be kept confidential and on file in a secure file cabinet in the front office. Only staff with a legitimate need to view the forms will access them. The security and location will be maintained by the MVMCS administration.
MVMCS will not engage in any activities that discourage a student from taking a State assessment or encourage parents/guardians to excuse students from testing.
