Montessori primary assistant 2019/2020

Primary Responsibilities:
• Engage with children in the Montessori Environment in a loving, nurturing way.
• Show respect.
• Be a positive role-model to all those around you.

General Responsibilities:
• Report to the lead teacher
• Assist in establishing and maintaining a peaceful classroom.
• Help to establish and maintain Montessori classroom culture, meeting the needs of students.
• Carefully observe and keep records on each student’s individual progress throughout the classroom
• Offer guidance and redirect students appropriately
• Participate in weekly staff meetings.
• Participate in all school events and conferences.

Responsibilities to the Lead Teacher:
• Assist the lead teacher in guiding children in their learning
• Have an understanding of the Montessori materials.
• Carry out duties assigned by the lead teacher
• Be familiar with the Employee and Parent Handbooks.
• Notify the lead teacher of any classroom issues, like behavior, health problems, equipment needs, repairs, maintenance, etc.
• Have daily meetings with the lead teacher to plan ahead and prep
Responsibilities to the Children and Parents:
• Keep information confidential.
• Be professional with children and parents.
• Share all information from parents with lead teacher.
• Respect children as independent learners
Responsibilities to the Classroom:
• House-keeping. Keep the environment clean, well-stocked and tidy. Reorder and restock supplies. Teach children how to clean-up and assign them job responsibilities
• Make Montessori materials.
Dress:
• Professional appearance at all times; no sweats, clothing with holes, that is too tight or revealing, etc. Be prepared to sit modestly and comfortably on the floor while engaging with children.
Absence:
• Notify the lead teacher as soon as possible so that a substitute can be organized and let the Head of School know.
Hours:
• 7:30am – 3:30pm including a half hour lunch break.

Assistant teacher must meet the following basic requirements:
• Some experience working with pre-school/Kindergarten aged children in a learning environment
• Early childhood Credential (or currently in training)
• Interest in obtaining a Montessori Early Childhood Credential.
• CPR/First Aid certification /FEMA Training (within 30 days)
• CBI/FBI fingerprint clearance (within 30 days)
• Be physically strong and able to lift at least 50 pounds.
• Continuing professional development – 15 hours per school year.
